Alpine Montessori School was established in 1989 as a 501(c)(3), alternative preschool experience for Brewster County children ages 3-6. A Lower Elementary class of six to nine year olds (1st- 3rd grade) was added in 1996. An Upper Elementary (4th - 6th grade) was added a few years later. The school is located at 908 North 6th street, 2 blocks north of the public AISD Elementary School.

Alpine Montessori School has a history of very involved, proactive parents. It serves families from Ft. Davis, Marfa, Marathon, and Alpine. Parents participate in fund raising, maintenance of gardens and campuses, in-class instruction, celebrations, ceremonies, "Friday hot lunches", public relations, and every other aspect of the school.
